Hello Ms Yong, this shall be my blog entries, for term 3 (:

Recently, China has come under fire, for their manufactured goods. In this case, the over dosage of lead content in the paints. Its interesting to see, how many of the high ranked offcials immediately point the finger to the Chinese manufacturers, who are tasked with producing large quantities of goods, at an alraming fast pace, at whatever cost. Quality is secondary i must say.

However, lets take a step back, and clearly see for ourselves, how much of the blame should actually be put on the Chinese manufacturers. Its easy for us, as the consumers, to put the blame on the easiet option available, without knowing the full story behind the whole saga. I would like to believe, that the MNC's play a part too, in ensuring that the quality of the goods do not get comprimised. This is only fair, because the promise of quality checks by the MNCs should have been done before pre-shipment.

Businessmen will always be looking for cheap labour. And thats when these workers are tasked to do ridiculous work in a short spam of time. However, many people fail to see that. Many people fail to see that it should be the people of power in the company who are responsible for the quality in their goods. The workers, often uneducated, are really just doing their job. Doing it for that little pay they can get to feed their families back home. Its a tiring job, but somebody has to do it. However, the educated people should be the ones emphasing the need for cleaniness and stringent checks among the factories.

Chinas is fast becoming a country of possiblities, and her progress over the years have been remarkable. Her impact on the global arena is immense, her moves watched closely, and her every mistaked magnifyed by the press. In this sense, China needs to remain competitve. Negative press reports is the last thing the government wants. China should focus on rebuilding itself, rebuilding the trust she lost it so carelessly. Producing half the goods the world needs is extraordinary, but producing it with a clean reputation in tact is something even more respectable.

No doubt, i would be more careful when i'm buying goods made in China. However, its gratifying to see many officials stepping up to ensure that the qualiy of the goods do ot get comprimised, again. A simple act of cleaniness would be well received by all. Lets start with the Beijing Olympics.

Singapore teacher outs himself on blog

Probably one of the fastest news to hit most schools would be the above article, about a gay teacher who finally came to light about his homosexual behaviours in his blog. This article has set me thinking, in more ways than one. It showed me how shallow most Singaporeans are.

So much uproar caused, so much tension, so much controversy. Over a male teacher's sexual preferences. I do believe that we Singaporeans have too much time on our hands, because there are certainly much more pressing issues that we can talk about. In simple terms, we are too comfortable. Too satisfied with all that has been achieved by our forefathers. Our itchy fingers, and unfortunately mouths, have to find something to gossip about. We needed to find something to let the whole world know, that not all of Singapore's teachers are straight.

In other countries, there is so much poverty, so much misery. People are not concerned with whatever the newspapers publish about gays. Heck, they don't even have newspapers. People are just concerned with living everyday, and hoping for a better tomorrow. New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina struck through the state, leaving many people homeless. Would the people care about one gay person who's teaching their kids? They would probably be happy to even let their kids have proper education.

My point is, Singaporeans are too relaxed, to a point where we get involved in things that don't matter to us. Many of us, not all, do not understand the hardship of life. The needs and not the wants. Yes we go to church, yes we have CIP, yes we have those visits to old folks home. But is it helping? Flip the newspaper and the are more articles on the world outside of Singapore. And its definitely not pretty.

I'm proud to say that the teacher was my form teacher for 2 years. He taught me for 2 years, my hated subjects, the sciences. I looked up to him, with respect because he struck me as a teacher who was proud of his students, a teacher who cared. He was witty, and always carrying a joke along with him. He taught well, we dubbed him one of the better science teachers in our school. In short, he was a teacher. And we never looked at him any other way. I'm proud, just to have a teacher who besides teaching, cares for his students. Nothing less
